With a brooding, low drone and a percussive strike is how Timothy Monger opens his upcoming album Amber Lantern. It’s somewhat alarming, perhaps a wakeup call, which leads into Monger’s lyrics paired against the quiet heavy breathing of a runner. In “Plough King,” the opening track, we hear Monger contemplate change, abandonment, and perseverance. The song itself is a portrayal of change, navigating style and tone to illustrate and accompany the feelings exhibited.

The following songs on Amber Lantern continue to radiate the warm glow and hopeful worry that listeners have come to know Monger for. And, like any good lantern, they are looking for a weary hand to hold them. You can pre-order Amber Lantern now at Timothy Monger’s bandcamp. The album releases on February 10 and will be available digitally as well as on vinyl and compact disc.
